Traffic Congestion
Traffic gridlock is not only a major annoyance to Southern Californians, but also inhibits our economy. To address this growing challenge, Congressman Dreier works to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic safety for the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire. Under his leadership, the Alameda Corridor East project, which eliminates crossings between freight trains and vehicles, and improves air quality by reducing the time cars idle, has received significant federal support. He has also championed the Gold Line Foothill Extension, which will take the light rail line from Pasadena to Montclair. The Gold Line, which will provide commuters a viable alternative to driving, has received nearly $30 million in federal funding to date thanks to Congressman Dreier’s efforts.
- Congressman Dreier cosponsored legislation to protect Southern California residents from being double-taxed for utilizing the region’s roadways. Plans are currently underway to convert carpool lanes on the I-10, I-110 and I-210 to toll lanes, and the legislation would ensure that current users of the carpool lanes continue to have free access to these taxpayer funded roadways.
- Congressman Dreier voted to approve legislation in Congress recognizing the Gold Line Foothill Extension as a priority and counting the first phase of the project, which was completed on time and under budget with local and state funding, as the local match required by the Federal Transit Administration.
- Congressman Dreier fought for more federal resources for the Alameda Corridor East project to construct grade separations and safety upgrades at rail crossings to reduce traffic and improve air quality by limiting the time cars idle while freight trains travel through the region.
