Reining in Government Spending
Government spending is completely out of control. Last year the deficit reached $1.4 trillion and our national debt exceeded $7.5 trillion. Taxpayers already pay nearly $200 billion a year just to cover the interest on our debt, and that number is set to grow exponentially in the coming years. This kind of reckless spending is dangerous today, but will be disastrous for our future. If we do not reverse course, future generations of Americans will be crippled by the national debt. Credit will become ever scarcer, stifling our economy and driving up unemployment. Americans will see more and more of their hard-earned paychecks disappear each month to pay for wasteful government spending and the ever-growing interest on our debt as a nation.
Congressman Dreier is firmly committed to putting an end to this reckless spending and restoring fiscal discipline and accountability to the federal budget. Every penny of the taxpayers’ dollars must be spent wisely or returned to the taxpayers. Wasteful programs must be cut, transparency must be restored and the federal government must learn to live within its means, just like the rest of us.
- Congressman Dreier voted against the $800 billion “stimulus” bill that failed to create the jobs that were promised and added to the fastest-growing deficit in recent memory.
- Congressman Dreier voted to end bailouts for failing industries and to use any repaid bailout funds to pay down the national debt.
- Congressman Dreier voted against the costly “cap-and-trade” legislation that would have imposed significant new taxes on job creators, further hurting our economy and worsening our deficit.
