Fighting Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration remains a critical problem, especially in Southern California, and Congressman Dreier remains committed to confronting it. Dreier has a longstanding record of fighting illegal immigration and bringing resources back to California from Washington for the effort. He has also authored key legislation to crack down on document fraud and end the magnet of jobs that draws illegal immigrants across the border. Dreier has stood up to efforts in Congress to undermine the effort against illegal immigration and has always stood fast against amnesty.
- Last year, Congressman Dreier successfully increased by $55 million the level of funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), which reimburses states and localities for the incarceration of criminal illegal immigrants.
- Congressman Dreier has authored H.R. 98, the Illegal Immigration Enforcement and Social Security Protection Act which improves the security of Social Security cards and cracks down on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants.
- Congressman Dreier is opposed to amnesty. In fact, he voted against the infamous 1986 amnesty bill.
- Congressman Dreier is a co-sponsor of H.R. 997, the English Language Unity Act, which makes English the official language of the United States.
