Healthcare
Congressman Dreier believes access to quality, affordable healthcare coverage can and should be available to every American, regardless of any preexisting conditions. Healthcare reform must give individuals and families the freedom to choose the plan that meets their needs and allows those who like their current coverage to keep it. Congress needs to come together to support meaningful reform of our healthcare system and produce legislation that improves access, lowers costs and increases the quality of care for all Americans. Congressman Dreier opposed the Democrat’s proposed government takeover of healthcare. Instead, he supports a plan that will:
- Allow states and small businesses to band together to offer affordable healthcare, implement medical liability reform, eliminate fraud and abuse, and create a small business tax credit to encourage employers to offer coverage.
- Ensure that government bureaucrats can’t come between patients and doctors.
- Make insurance plans portable, so that people have the ability to easily maintain their health insurance, no matter where they live or work.
- Congressman Dreier also authored H.R 99, the Fair and Simple Tax Act, which gives individuals and families a tax deduction to buy health insurance if they do not have access to coverage through their employers. Any unspent funds may be placed in Health Savings Accounts, which can be used to cover co-pays, prescription costs and other medical expenses.
