Energy Security
Energy is an issue that affects our economy, our national security and the environment. In order to bring prices down in a significant way and end our dependence on foreign oil from dangerous countries, we need to pursue American-made energy and achieve true energy security. Congressman Dreier supports a comprehensive approach of pursuing alternative energy sources like solar, nuclear, coal-to-liquid, wind power and deep-water exploration, as well as increased refinery capacity. His record reflects a commitment to pursuing energy in an environmentally responsible way, utilizing advances in technology in order to minimize the impact on our environment. Dreier has also stood up for consumers by supporting legislation that provides tax incentives for alternative energy investment.
- Congressman Dreier voted to provide production and investment tax credits to promote the expansion of renewable energies including solar, wind and geothermal. He is an original cosponsor of legislation that would permanently extend these renewable energy tax credits, which is necessary to expedite the continued expansion of the industry.
- Congressman Dreier voted to increase energy efficiency by providing tax incentives for energy-efficient homes, businesses and appliances, as well as for purchasing fuel-efficient automobiles, such as hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles.
- To renew our commitment to accelerating the development of advanced technology vehicles, Congressman Dreier is an original cosponsor of legislation that provides incentives for developing these kinds of vehicles to be commercially produced.
- Congressman Dreier voted to develop and utilize alternative fuels, including biofuels, cellulosic ethanol and coal-to-liquids, to ease our reliance on oil as the primary energy source in transportation.
- Since 1995, Congressman Dreier has worked to permit responsible oil and gas exploration on 2,000 acres of the 19 million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), an area that represents .01 percent of the Refuge. Additionally, Congressman Dreier voted to enable deep-ocean exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). By providing access to these areas, we can unlock more than 96 billion barrels of American oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
- Congressman Dreier voted to streamline the refinery permitting process in an effort to facilitate the development of new oil refineries and expand the capacity of existing ones, alleviating the threat of disruptions in the refining process.
