Education

The future of California and the future of our country depend on providing the next generation with an education that allows them to question, learn and grow. California has a great tradition of education, and some of the most respected education facilities in the world are found in our state. Congressman David Dreier is a stalwart supporter of improving education access, standards and quality to keep our state and our nation competitive. He believes that education is the key for giving people the tools to fulfilling their dreams. Dreier has also supported legislation to help teachers defray the personal costs of bringing new and innovative education methods into the classroom.

  • Congressman Dreier voted last year to increase funding for Pell Grants by $9 billion over the next five years in an effort to give students the chance to realize their academic dreams.
  • Congressman Dreier voted to provide a backstop for student loan lending, which will ensure that students continue to have access to affordable student loans.
  • Congressman Dreier voted to establish a new tax benefit for teachers to subsidize classroom expenses, including books, supplies, computer equipment, software, and supplementary materials which are used to benefit our nation’s students.
  • Congressman Dreier voted to double the funding over the next seven years for the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) laboratories and the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science. The funding will be used in part for grants to schools for science and engineering research, and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education from kindergarten to postdoctoral education.
