About Dreier

David Dreier stands for individual liberty, economic opportunity, personal responsibility, and limited government. Since being elected in 1980, Dreier has fought to reduce taxes for working families, delivered federal resources for southern California’s priorities, and strengthened our commitment to securing our homeland. Born on July 5, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri, Dreier moved to California for college (Claremont McKenna College ’75) and worked in corporate development until his election to Congress in 1980.
Throughout his early public service, Dreier established a record as a strong tax fighter and advocate of President Reagan’s foreign policy initiatives to fight communism. In 1999, Dreier took the helm of the powerful House Committee on Rules and joined the Speaker on the House’s Leadership Team. Serving as Chairman of the House Rules Committee until 2007 and now as the ranking member on the Rules Committee, Dreier plays a pivotal role in fashioning legislation considered by the House of Representatives, proving to be a tireless advocate for California’s globally competitive economy.
In May 2001, Dreier was unanimously selected by his California colleagues to chair the state’s Republican Congressional Delegation. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also named David Dreier the chair of his transition team after he was elected in California’s historic recall election in October, 2004. In these roles, Dreier works hand in hand with Governor Schwarzenegger and the 20 - Member Republican Delegation to bring California’s taxpayer dollars home. Statewide priority issues include the successful authorization of CALFED, which manages the Bay-Delta’s water use, the reimbursement of hospitals for providing indigent care, reimbursement of local law enforcement for the incarceration of illegal immigrant criminals, and the re-investment of California’s tax dollars into California’s transportation infrastructure.
David Dreier has proudly represented the Foothills of California since his election in 1980, including the cities of Arcadia, Bradbury, Claremont, Glendora, La Canada Flintridge, La Verne, Monrovia, San Dimas, San Marino, Sierra Madre, Walnut, La Crescenta - Montrose, Mayflower Village, North El Monte and portions of Altadena, Covina and Pasadena. He also represents the western part of San Bernardino County including the cities of Upland, Montclair, Rancho Cucamonga, Phelan, San Antonio Heights, Mt. Baldy, and Wrightwood. Working with these communities to meet the needs of this region is Dreier’s paramount goal. In order to continue southern California’s preeminence as the nation’s number one trade corridor through which goods enter and leave our country, Dreier has championed the Alameda Corridor East project which removes traffic barriers at railway crossing to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety for drivers and pedestrians, and improve air quality.
Dreier also successfully brought federal, state, local and private parties together to clean up harmful contamination in the region’s groundwater supply. In his commitment to parents and their children, Dreier has supported empowering parents with choice and local decision making for safer, better performing schools and teachers. David Dreier remains as dedicated to the San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire today as he was when he was first elected to Congress and came to Washington, D.C. with President Ronald Reagan. Considered “the most influential Californian in Congress” (San Jose Mercury News, July 22, 2004) the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin stated, “In the 26th District, Republican David Dreier offers the region high visibility and political pull in Congress . . . He also understands the issues that need attention in his own district.”
