DREIER VOTES TO HOLD LINE ON SPENDING
Congressman David Dreier today voted against a massive budget that spends too much, taxes too much, and borrows too much. He said he could not support a budget that calls for such dramatic increases in spending and debt, while at the same time, increasing taxes on small businesses and working families. “With our economy still facing serious challenges, we have a responsibility to get it back on track. We need to help people find jobs and help families keep more of what they earn so they can rebuild their savings. This budget will not accomplish that. In fact, it will prevent our economy from regaining its footing by raising taxes on the very people we need to start hiring again and by piling $70,000 worth of debt on every man, woman, and child in the U.S. It is regrettable that the Democratic Leadership chose not to work with Republicans to craft a compromise budget that deals with our obligations to the less fortunate, yet controlled spending and taxing in a responsible way. Even more regrettable is that this budget lays the ground work for a massive government takeover of our health care system, and it will be done without an open and honest debate. I believe we can stimulate an economic recovery with the right combination of tax relief for working families, responsible spending, and incentives for job creation. I will continue to pursue those policies until we see our economy back on its feet and Americans working again.”
